Response Actions

Customize what a visitor sees right after they submit your form — a custom message or a redirect to a URL of your choice.

What is a response action

A response action controls what a visitor sees right after a successful submission — a custom message, or a redirect to a URL of your choice. It applies to both a plain HTML form post and a JS/fetch submission through sdk.js (which gets a JSON response with the message or redirect URL in it, rather than a rendered page). Free on every plan, no module required.

Want to reply to the submitter by email instead? That's the Auto Response connector, not a response action — see Connections. Auto Response is subject to Form Rules the same as any other connector; a response action is not.

Setting up a response action

  • Open the form: go to the form's detail page, Connections tab, "After submission" panel.
  • Pick one: default confirmation, a custom message, or a redirect URL — a form has exactly one of these at a time; picking a new one replaces whatever was set before.
terminal
curl -X POST https://api.tryembedio.com/v1/forms/frm_xxxxxxxxxx/response-actions \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer sk_live_..." \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"kind": "redirect", "config": {"url": "https://example.com/thank-you"}}'

Redirect priority

If the submission itself included a _redirect field pointing to the same origin as the submitting page, the visitor is sent there instead of your dashboard-configured redirect or message — external origins in _redirect are rejected. This lets a specific embed override the form's default redirect without changing the dashboard setting.
